Slavery
As soon as the first settlements were officially created, African's came to Connecticut in 1640 and began working as servants in 1660, though there is no discovery of how they got to America. In the beginning of slavery in Connecticut, slavery was very different than it was later on in the country. Slaves did not become slaves because of their family being slaves (it was not hereditary) and they weren't slaves forever. Connecticut was one of the first places to release slaves. When slave owners believed that their purchase price was repaid by their time of working, the slaves are released.
